Versatile, robust and adaptable. The perfect solution for working across multiple industries.

  1. Brown & Holmes, a leader in bespoke work holding and fixtures, also serves a substantial client base with subcontract machining. As the industry sees a surge in demand for complex parts and a larger volume of components across diverse sectors, their investment in advanced machinery and skilled workforce positions them as a frontrunner.

    The Lagun 4-metre-long bed mill

The acquisition of the versatile Lagun 4-metre machine is a key part of their strategy to future-proof the business. It enables the B&H to diversify into bespoke machining and subcontract machining for the aerospace, defence, and other industries. The machine is perfect for moving quickly between projects and materials while remaining highly accurate.

Brown & Holmes had also identified a growing demand for producing bigger components, which can involve multiple machining setups. The 4-metre bed on the Lagun has proved ideal and has expanded the business’s capabilities.

The Lagun has the option of a larger 50 spindle, and with a 4000 rpm, operators can take bigger, deeper cuts. The indexing head has a fourth and fifth axis, allowing rotation of a workpiece around different axes, increasing accuracy and reducing set-up time.

Future-proofing the business and meeting the evolving needs of the customer

Futureproofing is an evolution. By identifying and anticipating what customers need, Brown & Homes has not only increased its machining capabilities through the right technology but also invested in the people it employs and hopes to employ in the future.

The work holding and machining staff the future

The company has a proud tradition of investing in staff and has a robust apprenticeship programme. This has stemmed in part from the owners, Kevin Ward and Carl Baker, having themselves started out as apprentices. An apprentice will typically work in every part of the business, working on the shop floor, in CNC programming, in the design office, and on-site, installing products such as Mistbuster and IFDR. They get a good understanding of every facet of Brown & Homes as a business.

Part of Brown & Holmes’ expansion to meet demand has meant another site in Derby, where they support their clients in the defence industry. Brown and Holmes continue to explore ways to evolve to meet customers’ needs now and in the future.
